The man that stepped from the Rift was tall, and dark, and not at all handsome. His face was scarred on the one side, and the story was that one of his former patients had covered him with gasoline and set him on fire. His blue eyes were completely devoid of warmth as he swept his gaze around the Rift Access Control Room, and the dark suit he wore only accentuated the impression of a brooding, crow-like presence that matched his name.
As I promised a while back now, in this sea of craziness that has been the way of thins lately, here is a brief introduction to the last of the ‘doctors’ in The Use’Ara Series, to add to with the excerpt above. Corbin is not someone we meet right away – at least not as things stand currently – so the excerpt is not from Harm, but whose threatening presence is a heavy weight on some of the characters even from the very beginning.
Professor Lance Corbin (Nickname: None)
Corbin is a native of Earth, a American male in his 50s. He was transferred to the Colonization Program by the IPRA after working with the US Government in the capacity of psychiatrist and counselor for covert operatives, and later the early colony missions. His methods are considered by many to be highly suspect, and for a person charged with safeguarding the mental and emotional well-being of individuals already under a great deal of stress, he displays very little empathy or patience. This suspicion of his methods and motivation extends to outright dislike – possibly stronger than that – on the part of Doctor Affrar, with whom, it seems, there is some bitter history.
So… Corbin, as you can see, while he might be on the good guys side, he’s anything but good, and is actually a kind of hateful character, who will definitely stir up all kinds of trouble for various of the people on Use’Ara Prime, and even as his ‘creator’ I’m sitting here hoping that in the end, he gets his comeuppance.
